Mary Leonard

Counselling and Psychotherapy

Hello and welcome.

I am a counsellor and therapist based in Edinburgh, offering face to face and online sessions.

I work with adults and young people experiencing anxiety and depression, as well as with loss, bereavement, trauma and relationship difficulties. I have also worked with younger children through play therapy and supported women who have experienced domestic abuse and coercive control.

I trained in psychodynamic theory and practice with Human Development Scotland (formerly The Scottish Institute of Human Relations) and have a Post Graduate Diploma in Human Relations and Counselling awarded by Robert Gordon University Aberdeen.

It is my belief that we can all benefit from therapy at some point in our lives – the wonderful feeling that comes from being able to tell our story, share our innermost thoughts and feelings, fears and hopes in confidence and without being judged.

The pandemic and recent world events have brought us face to face with unpredictability, adding to underlying anxieties and in many cases robbing us of our support networks. While we cannot always control what comes our way, we can, with professional and confidential support, choose more creative and empowering ways in which to respond.

I offer in person or online sessions – whichever is more comfortable for you – and welcome clients of all status, gender, race and culture.

I am a registered member of BACP – the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and work within its ethical standards and codes of conduct.

“Although the world is full of suffering

it is also full of overcoming it.”
